1. Man decays and dies like corn and emerges again like corn.

2. The preferable is different indeed; and so, indeed, is the pleasurable different. These two, serving divergent purposes, (as they do), bind men. Good befalls him who accepts the preferable out of these two. He who selects the pleasurable falls from the true end.

3. The preferable and the pleasurable approach mankind. The man of intelligence having considered them, separates the two. The intelligent one selects the electable in preference to the delectable; the non-intelligent one selects the delectable for the sake of growth and protection (of the body etc.)

காரைக்குடி புத்தகத் திருவிழாவிற்கு எமது அழைப்பை ஏற்று வந்து வாசகர்களுடன் உரையாடி, சிறப்புரையாற்றி அவரது எளிமையாலும், தெளிவான சிந்தனையாலும் அனைவரையும் கவர்ந்தார் என்பதை நினைக்கையில் பெருமகிழ்ச்சி அடைகிறேன்.

தன்னம்பிக்கையாலும், தளராத ஆர்வத்தாலும், விடா முயற்சியாலும் வெற்றிகண்ட இச்சாதனையாளருக்கு நமது நெஞ்சம் நிறைந்த வாழ்த்துக்கள்.

Health News-29: "Cancer drug reverses transplant rejection"

The Hindu, Madurai (December 28, 2008), reports quoting AFP that a drug that is used to treat cancer has proven effective at stopping the body from rejecting a transplanted organ. This drug, Bortezomib, was administered to six patients whose immune systems were attacking transplanted kidneys and who did not respond to traditional anti-rejection treatments. In all the cases, the drug promptly reversed the rejection, improved organ function, provided prolonged reductions in antibody levels and suppressed recurrent rejection for at least five months. The study was carried out at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.

கேள்வியும் பதிலும்-26: "கவிஞன் யார்?" "எது கவிதை?"

கேட்டேன் என்பவன் சமூக மருத்துவன். பலநேரங்களில் யதார்த்தம் முன் கற்பனை உலகிலேயே வாழும் கோமாளியாகவும் வாழ்ந்து மறைந்து போகிறான். பார்த்ததைப் புதிதாய்ப் பார்ப்பவன் பாவலன். பார்த்ததை மீண்டும் பார்ப்பவன் பாமரன். கவிஞன் என்பவன் தலைசிறந்த ரசிகனாகவும் இருக்கிறான். அதேபோல் கவிதையில் புதுக்கவிதை, மரபுக்கவிதை என்ற பேதமில்லை. கவிதைகளுக்கு வார்த்தைகளே தேவையில்லை. வாசிக்கும் முன்பே புரிந்துவிடக்கூடியதுதான் கவிதை. எளிமைதான் அதன் ஆகச் சிறந்த இயல்பு. இந்த இடத்தில் எனது கவிதை ஒன்றினைப் பகிர ஆசைப்படுகிறேன்:

மொழியின்முன் மண்டியிட்டு

வார்த்தை வரம் கேட்டேன்.

அரசியல்வாதிகள் வந்து

அள்ளிக்கொண்டு

போய்விட்டார்கள்.

கட்டுரையாளர்கள் சிலர்

கேட்டு வாங்கிப்போனார்கள்.

மீதமிருந்ததை பேசவும் ஏசவும்

மனைவியர் வாங்கிப்

போனார்கள்.

தாமதமாக வந்து நிற்கிறாயே,

தமிழ்க் கவிஞனே என்று

மொழி மிகவும் வருந்தியது.

வேறு வழியின்றி வெற்றுக்

காகிதத்தை மடித்து
